We've got this far The last two years have seen the Collaborative grow into an energetic and resourceful network of people, all determined to do what they can to save lives across the South West. We are grateful to all who have helped us to get this far, & in particular to Devon Partnership Trust, but we now need funds to allow us to take the next steps.
Supported by the Samaritans - it has been a real privilege to work with the Samaritans so far - and we were delighted to hear from them how much they appreciate the work of the Collaborative, and want to do what they can to help us to continue. They are currently hoping to be able to support us with a donation, as long as we are able to raise other funds from other sources.
We're staying positive - so with all fingers crossed we are now beginning to tentatively plan for another Learning Event later this year – hopefully in November! Can you help us to fundraise to make this possible? We will do everything we can to keep our costs down - and if you have any thoughts on what might help us to do this - please let us know!
A formal structure: An absolutely vital step if we are to continue, is to set ourselves up with a more formal structure so that we are able to apply for Lottery or other funding. We’ve been taking advice on what this should be, and after much discussion, our Steering Group decided that we should register as a Company, as a first step to then registering as a Charity. We have now taken the first step and have registered as a Company Limited by Guarantee, and are now beginning the processes of applying for Lottery funding as well as registering as a Charity.
Can you help by giving us a donation? Do you know of anyone who might be able to help? To help get the word out we're currently working on a short leaflet which will be available to distribute. We are convinced that by working together we stand a hugely better chance of supporting people to stay alive.
Donating is easy - either click on the Paypal 'DONATE' button on the home page, or email firstname.lastname@example.org for details of how to send us a cheque. All donations, however small, will be greatly appreciated.
How about getting sponsorship & walking with us with CLASP on World Suicide Prevention Day? See the News feature for more information.
Many many thanks - and a change of Chair Huge thanks are due to Adrian James who did so much to set up the Collaborative in 2014. As a result of other commitments, Adrian sadly needs to now let go of his role as Chair of the Collaborative, although he will continue to support us and to join with us when he can. Corinne Thomas has kindly agreed to stand in as Acting Chair.
Thanks are also due to the NHS; to the West of England SCN & the Peninsula AHSN, as well as Devon Partnership Trust, the Samaritans, to Torbay and South Devon Trust, to the Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, as well as to all those individuals who have contributed directly to our fundraising efforts.
Particular thanks go to Mary Ryan who worked incredibly hard one weekend in June providing refreshments at her open garden event, as a result of which she raised £668.72 for the Collaborative! The event allowed many people to have conversations about a subject that we know is often obscured by stigma, and also generated many requests for more information about our project. We have agreed that we will use some of the money raised to cover the printing costs of a small leaflet about the Collaborative, which will be yet another way of spreading the word. Watch this space!
All best wishes, Sue
